A small cast figure holding a shade, in five poses that are genuinely different characters rather than the same model repainted. Dreaming leans back; Confident stands square; Waiting is seated; Thinking has a hand to the chin; Frowning has its arms folded. They are funny without being cute, and a group of two or three along a shelf reads as a cast rather than a set of ornaments.

Each stands about 17 centimetres tall on a 15 centimetre base, cast in resin and finished in a warm gold or a cooler silver. The resin takes the detail well, so the folds and the pose stay crisp rather than going soft the way cheaper mouldings do. Gold is the friendlier of the two finishes and sits well with wood and brass; silver is sharper and works better in a room with chrome or steel already in it.

There is no cable in use. A 1800mAh battery charges over USB and runs for eight to twelve hours on a charge at a modest setting, and a touch on the base switches and dims. At three watts this is a mood light for a shelf, a mantelpiece or a bedside rather than something to read by. The lithium battery is built in and not user-replaceable - recycle the unit at a WEEE point at end of life. Keep out of reach of small children.
