Filon Slim Linear Pendant Light

The Filon is a narrow black tube on a long cord, sized to hang either side of a bed where a table lamp would take up the whole surface of a nightstand. The beam drops straight down, so it lights a book without filling the room.

The body is matt black metal, 3.8 cm across and 28 cm long, which is slim enough to read as a line rather than an object. The 170 cm cord is adjustable, so the drop can be set to clear a headboard or to hang low over a worktop. The LED is built in and included and runs at a fixed warm colour temperature, so there is no lamp to buy and nothing to change later.

Hung in pairs it frames a bed symmetrically, and a single unit works over a kitchen island, beside an armchair or in a stairwell. Set the bottom of the tube at about shoulder height when you are sitting up in bed, which puts the light on the page rather than in your eyes. The fitting is hardwired and rated IP20 for indoor use, and assembly is required, so installation is best carried out by a qualified electrician. Wipe the tube with a dry cloth.
