Flameless LED Fireplace Lantern

A small flame-effect lantern that gives a room the flicker of a fire without a fire being lit. The movement comes from LEDs behind a shaped diffuser rather than from a bulb on a timer, so the light shifts unevenly the way a real flame does instead of pulsing on a loop. Three shapes are offered: a stove, an open hearth and a traditional carry lantern.

It produces no heat at all and no combustion of any kind, which makes it a sensible choice where a candle would be a worry — a mantelpiece with something above it, a hallway table, a room with children or pets moving through it. Power comes from batteries or a USB lead, so it can sit anywhere in a room rather than being tethered to the nearest socket.

Treat it as decoration rather than a light source: it is bright enough to give a corner atmosphere on a dark evening but not to read by. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets, as with any small ornament, and use a UK-approved USB mains adapter, not supplied, if you are running it from the wall rather than from batteries. On a bookshelf or a windowsill it works as well by day as an object as it does lit at night.
