Flora Ceramic Pasta Bowls

The pasta bowl is the most useful shape in a cupboard and the least well served by matching sets. A wide flat rim to hold a fork, a deep enough well for sauce, and a diameter that takes a proper portion without looking mean - get those right and the bowl does pasta, salad, curry, a grain bowl or breakfast equally well. These get them right.

Seven patterns are decorated onto the rim and the well rather than printed across the whole surface, which keeps the centre clear for the food. Ditsy and Pansy are the busiest, Liner and Rays the most graphic, Peach and Cherry the warmest, Blue the most classic. They are designed to be bought as a mixed set rather than seven of one - the palette is consistent enough that a table of different patterns reads as deliberate.

The ceramic is glazed and fired to take everyday use, and the shape stacks cleanly without the rims chipping against each other. Hand decoration means the placement varies slightly between individual bowls. Wash on a normal cycle and avoid stacking them under heavy weight in a cupboard, where the wide rim is the vulnerable point. Bought three or four at a time in different patterns, they make a far more interesting table than a matching set.
