Floral Cotton Tablecloth

A cotton cloth is the quickest way to change the character of a dining room, and these are printed with florals that are cheerful rather than chintzy. Four designs are offered: Golden Daisy Tassel with a fringed edge, Golden Daisy Lace with a worked border, a scattered Multicoloured Dot, and a softer Beige Floral for anyone who wants pattern without much colour.

The cloth is soft cotton with enough weight to hang properly over the edge of a table instead of lifting at the corners, and it presses out easily after washing. Four sizes cover most tables: a 140cm round, a 140cm square, a 110 by 170cm rectangle for a four-seater, and a 140 by 260cm for a long table with the leaves out.

It works as everyday table linen, as a cover for a garden table on a summer afternoon, or thrown over a side table or a chest to soften a corner of a room. Machine washable at a low temperature, and better line-dried than tumbled to keep the print sharp and the edges flat. Warm iron on the reverse if needed. Expect a small amount of shrinkage on the first wash, as with any cotton. Wash a new cloth before its first use so any loose surface dye is carried away.
