Folded Bird Wall Light 34cm

A wall light folded from sheet metal into the form of a paper bird, wings swept back and head turned slightly to one side. The folds are sharp and the planes flat, so it catches light along its edges in daylight and then glows from within once switched on, throwing angular shadows onto the wall behind. It measures 34cm across and 16.5cm high, which is large enough to be the feature of a small wall.

Three finishes are offered. Black reads as graphic and sits well against a pale wall. White almost disappears until it is lit, which suits a minimal room. Gold is the warmest of the three and picks up the tone of brass fittings elsewhere in a hallway. The metalwork is folded rather than cast, which is why the edges stay crisp, and it is the reason the piece weighs little for its size.

It takes an E27 lamp, the standard large screw base, so lamps are easy to source in the UK and you choose the colour temperature: the listing supports warm white through to cool white, and warm is the better match for the folded form. The input range is 90 to 260V, covering UK mains. Coverage is around three to five square metres. This is a hardwired fitting with no plug, and no lamp is supplied.
