Frosted Globe Wall & Ceiling Light

Small fittings solve problems that big ones cannot. This frosted globe is only 10cm across and 12cm deep, and its backplate mounts equally well on a wall or a ceiling, which makes it the answer for a landing, a windowless hallway, a cupboard-sized cloakroom, or the awkward wall beside a staircase where nothing larger will fit. Three or four in a row along a corridor look considered rather than improvised.

The glass is frosted right through rather than coated, so the bulb never shows as a bright point and the light leaves the globe evenly in every direction. That matters in a small space, where a glaring fitting at head height is genuinely unpleasant. The painted metal body comes in red, beige, green, pink or black, so it can either disappear against the wall or act as a small piece of colour. Mounted on a ceiling it behaves like a very small flush light; mounted on a wall it throws light both up and down the plaster.

It runs a G9 LED at a warm 3000K, and the bulb is supplied. The G9 base is compact, which is how the fitting stays this small, and replacements are widely available. It is hardwired, so it needs an existing lighting point or a new one run in by an electrician, and it is rated for dry indoor rooms rather than for a bathroom zone.
