Lighting a picture properly normally means either chasing a cable into the wall behind it or accepting a flex hanging down the plaster. This one is rechargeable, so it does neither. A 4400mAh battery runs it for twelve to twenty hours between charges depending on brightness, and it refills over USB-C, which means the only time it is attached to anything is when you take it down to charge.

The head tilts, so the beam can be angled onto the canvas rather than bouncing off the glass of a framed print, and three colour temperatures are available: warm for oil paintings and older frames, natural for photographs, cool for anything with a lot of white in it. A remote handles brightness and colour, which is far easier than reaching behind a picture frame every time.

Two lengths are offered. The 30cm suits pictures up to roughly 60cm wide; the 40cm covers larger canvases. Three finishes, gold, black and white, let it either match the frame or disappear against the wall. The body is aluminium and ABS, so it is light enough to mount with the fixings supplied rather than needing a structural anchor. Indoor use only. Because nothing is chased into the plaster, you can move the picture and the light together next time you rearrange a wall.
