Glass Battery Table Lamp 27cm

A tinted glass lamp, 27 centimetres tall, that runs on batteries rather than mains - which means it goes wherever you want it rather than wherever there happens to be a socket. That is more useful than it sounds. A mantelpiece, the middle of a dressed dining table, the top of a bookcase and a windowsill are all places a cable rules out and this lamp does not.

The glass is coloured through rather than sprayed, so the tone deepens where the wall of the vessel is thicker and the light coming through it varies across the surface. Gold is the warmest and the easiest to place. Lilac is the softest and reads almost grey until it is lit. Blue is the strongest of the three and wants a plain, pale setting to sit against. All three are switched on and off at the base.

It takes three AA batteries, which are not supplied, and the LED draws very little, so a set lasts through a great many evenings. This is an atmosphere light rather than a reading lamp - expect a glow you can sit beside, not a beam you can work under. Keep it out of reach of small children, keep the battery compartment closed, and dispose of used cells at a recycling point rather than in household waste.
