Glass Oil Dispenser with Measuring Scale

Decanting oil into glass solves two small irritations at once: you can see how much is left, and you can see what it looks like. This bottle adds a third fix, a measuring scale up one side, so a tablespoon into a pan is a glance rather than a guess. The body is clear glass with a narrow neck and a pouring spout shaped to cut the dribble that runs down the outside of most bottles and ends up on the shelf.

Three capacities are offered, 380, 650 and 950 millilitres, and the price steps with the size rather than sitting flat across it. The smallest suits a worktop beside the hob where it will be refilled often and the largest suits a pantry shelf or a household that cooks with one oil most of the time. The same bottle handles vinegar, soy or a syrup equally well, and the clear glass makes it obvious which is which at a glance.

Check the bottle for chips or cracks before each refill and stop using it if you find any. Fill it with cold or cool oil only, do not pour hot fat or hot oil into glass, which can crack it, and never stand it on or beside a lit hob, in the oven, or under a grill. Keep it back from the worktop edge where a child could pull it down, wash it by hand, and dry the spout before refilling.
