Glass Shade USB Table Lamp 28cm

A coloured glass shade held in a polished stainless steel frame, in the mid-century Italian idiom where the metalwork is kept thin and the glass does the talking. The polished surface picks up the colour of the shade and bounces it back, so the lamp has more presence than its 28 centimetres would suggest, and it works as well switched off as it does lit.

Four colourways are offered and they are all warm: yellow is the softest and the easiest to live with, white is nearly neutral and lets the steel do the work, pink is the most decorative, and orange is the boldest and wants a plain setting around it. The footprint is 18 centimetres, which fits a narrow shelf, a hall console or a bedside table without crowding anything else on it.

It is USB powered with adjustable brightness, so it can run from a laptop, a power bank or a wall adaptor, and the cable is far less obtrusive than a mains flex. A bulb is included. You will need a UK mains USB adaptor if you are plugging into a socket rather than a computer - use a good quality fused one. The glass shade will get warm in use; let it cool before moving the lamp, and keep it clear of curtains and soft furnishings.
