A small ceramic pot finished in a warm gold glaze that sits closer to brass than to bright metal, so it picks up lamplight in the evening without looking like a trophy. The glaze is applied over the whole outer face and carried a little way over the rim. Against green foliage it does the job a plain terracotta pot cannot, which is to make a small plant look deliberately placed.
Two sizes are offered. The small pot is 13 by 10.5 by 9.2 centimetres, which suits a single succulent, a small fern or a supermarket herb still in its plastic liner. The medium is 16.7 by 13.2 by 12 centimetres and will take a plant that has been potted on once. Both are ceramic through, not plated plastic, so they have enough weight to steady a top-heavy plant.
Use them as cachepots, with the plant left in its nursery pot inside, or plant directly and water sparingly and check the base before you do. Wipe the glaze with a soft damp cloth; abrasive pads will scratch the gold finish. Stand the pot on a saucer or a mat on any surface that marks, and keep it back from the edge of a shelf, since ceramic chips when it falls.
