Golden Sphere Vase

A flattened sphere with a narrow opening at the top, finished in a bright gold that picks up whatever light is in the room. The shape is the interesting part: because the body is wider than it is deep, it sits close against a wall or a mirror and takes up very little of a shelf, while still reading as a substantial object from the front.

Three sizes are offered, and a set of all three at a saving. Small is 13 by 12.5 by 6cm, medium 19 by 18 by 9cm and large 23 by 23 by 11cm. The narrow neck means a single stem or a tight handful of dried grasses looks intentional rather than sparse, which is exactly what an awkwardly wide vase never manages.

Grouped as a set of three at staggered heights they make a mantelpiece or a console arrangement on their own, with or without flowers in them. The gold finish sits well against dark paint, wood and marble. Wipe with a soft dry cloth rather than a wet one, and avoid abrasive cleaners, which will scratch the finish. Use a liner or a small bottle inside if arranging fresh stems in water. The set of three is the better value if you are furnishing a mantelpiece from scratch.
