Hand-Painted Skull Sculpture

A large skull cast in composite resin and hand-finished in metallic gold or silver, standing around 18cm high and 12.5cm across. The casting takes fine detail — the sutures and the tooth line are all crisp — and the metallic paint catches directional light in a way that changes the piece completely depending on where it is placed relative to a lamp.

It is a bold object and works best where it is given room, on a mantelpiece, a stack of books or a plinth rather than crowded among smaller things. The gold reads warmer and sits well against wood and darker paint; the silver is cooler and sharper against white or grey. Either functions as a seasonal piece in autumn and then stays out the rest of the year.

Resin is durable but this is a heavy object and should be placed where it cannot be pulled or knocked from a height. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets. Dust it with a soft dry brush, working into the recesses; a damp cloth will leave water marks in the hollows and a solvent cleaner will strip the metallic finish entirely. Lit from one side by a lamp rather than from directly above, the cast detail reads far more strongly than it does under flat daylight.
