Hikari Walnut Column Floor Lamp 160cm

Most floor lamps announce themselves. This one does not. The Hikari is a narrow fabric column just 16cm across, rising 160cm from a turned walnut base, and its whole purpose is to add a soft vertical line of light to a corner without taking up floor space. Seen unlit it reads as a piece of joinery; lit, the fabric glows evenly from top to bottom rather than throwing a single bright spot.

The light is warm white at around 3000K, close to the colour of an old filament bulb, and it is diffused across the full height of the shade. That makes it useful as a second light in a room that already has a ceiling fitting, or as the only light in a bedroom where you want something gentler than an overhead. A button foot switch sits on the cable, within easy reach of a chair.

The walnut base gives it enough weight to stand steady on a rug, and the LED is built in and rated for many years of evening use, so there is no bulb to source. It works in a hallway, at the end of a sofa, or beside a bed where a table lamp would need a table. Keep the cable routed against the skirting rather than across a walkway.
