Horseshoe Heart Wall Ornament

Worn horseshoes are welded point to point into an open heart, with the curve of each shoe doing the work of the outline. Because the shoes are reclaimed rather than cast for the purpose, every piece carries its own nail holes, scuffs and uneven wear, and no two hearts come out quite alike. The result has weight and honesty to it, and looks as good against bare brick or a painted hallway as it does in a porch.

Two sizes are offered. The smaller measures roughly 22 by 28 cm and weighs 82 g, which suits a narrow stretch of wall, the side of a dresser or a spot above a door. The larger runs to about 30 by 41 cm at 146 g and has enough presence to hold a wall on its own above a console or a bench. Each arrives as a single welded piece ready to hang, with no assembly needed.

Hang it from a hook or screw rated well above its weight, driven into a sound fixing rather than plasterboard alone. The iron is left with its working finish, so the edges and old nail holes can be rough to the touch; site it clear of head height and of anywhere small children will reach. If you hang it outside in a porch, expect it to develop surface rust over time. Wipe with a dry cloth.
