Ilvo Anthracite Sensor Outdoor Wall Light

The Ilvo leans forward from the wall and tapers as it goes, so the front face angles down towards the ground instead of glaring out at eye level. That face is a flat white polycarbonate panel which spreads the LEDs behind it into one even sheet rather than a hard point of light. Anthracite die-cast aluminium makes up the housing, a dark grey that holds its own against brick, render and grey window frames.

A motion detector is built into the housing below the panel, with a 110 degree detection angle and a range of up to 10 metres, and the on time can be set anywhere between 10 seconds and 6 minutes. Output is 1006 lumens at 3000 kelvin, a warm white that reads as welcoming rather than clinical, and the LEDs sit behind the panel rather than showing as separate points.

That combination turns a doorway, a side passage or a driveway into something that lights itself as someone approaches and switches off again on its own, which is more useful than a light somebody has to remember. Mount it high enough that the detection field covers the approach rather than the pavement beyond, and set a short on time for a doorway and a longer one for a drive. Keep the sensor lens clear of leaves and spider webs.
