Iron and Aluminium Dome Pendant

A small shallow dome turned from aluminium and set on an iron collar, twenty centimetres across and eleven deep. The proportion is the point: wide enough to spread light across a worktop or a hall table, shallow enough that it does not hang down into the room, which makes it easy to use in threes over a kitchen island or singly where a full-size pendant would dominate.

It comes in a flat black or a flat white, both matte, with the same finish carried onto the collar, the cable grip and the ceiling plate so there is no contrasting trim to break the shape. The inside of the dome is finished in the same colour as the outside, so a black one gives a tighter, more directional pool of light and a white one a broader and softer spread.

The LEDs are integrated into the dome rather than sitting in a replaceable lamp holder, which is what keeps the fitting this slim. It is a hardwired ceiling light with no plug or switch of its own, sized for an ordinary ceiling rose, and the drop can be shortened at installation. Wipe the outside with a dry cloth once the power is off and the fitting has cooled.
