Iron and Pine Bulb Table Lamp 13cm

This is a small lamp with a specific job: it puts a single decorative bulb at eye level on a shelf, a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the corner of a desk. At 9cm wide and 13cm tall it is closer in scale to an ornament than to a reading light, and that is the point. The bulb is the design. Fit a large filament globe and the lamp effectively disappears beneath it, leaving a floating sphere of warm light on the surface.

The base and frame are iron with a bronze-toned finish, paired with pine wood that keeps the whole thing from reading as purely industrial. The proportions are deliberately squat, so the lamp holds its position without a heavy weighted base, and the bronze finish picks up nearby warm metals such as brass handles and copper pans. Put two at either end of a long shelf, or one beside a stack of books, and the effect is far better than a single larger lamp doing the same work.

The lamp is supplied without a bulb, which matters here because the bulb is the visible element. It takes a standard screw fitting and is rated for 220 to 240 volt mains, for dry indoor locations only. Choose a decorative LED filament lamp within the wattage marked on the fitting, both because it stays cool and because the exposed glass is within easy reach. Let the lamp cool fully before changing the bulb.
