Iron Reading Floor Lamp 173cm

A tall, narrow standing lamp built from iron, with a slim upright and a head that reaches thirty-five centimetres out and points straight down. That is the useful part: the light lands on the page or the arm of the chair rather than in the room generally, so it works as a reading lamp next to a sofa without lighting the whole space and without the glare of an uplighter.

At a hundred and seventy-three centimetres tall it stands above the back of most sofas and armchairs, and the base is only thirteen and a half centimetres across, so it takes up almost no floor and can be pushed into the gap between a chair and a wall. The iron is finished in a single flat tone throughout, which keeps the outline clean and lets it disappear against a dark wall.

It takes a standard E27 screw lamp, so you choose the brightness and the warmth and can change either later, and it runs on ordinary two hundred and twenty to two hundred and forty volt mains. The shade points down and the inside will get hot in use, so an LED lamp is the sensible choice. Wipe the iron with a dry cloth; do not use a scouring cream on the finish.
