Irregular Plush Shaped Rug

A rug with a straight edge always tells you where the room stops. This one does the opposite. The outline is deliberately irregular, curving in and out like a pebble or a spill, which softens a rectangular room and gives a sofa or a bed something less rigid to sit against. Three designs are offered, each with its own tonal pattern worked into the pile rather than printed across it.

The pile itself is thick and plush, with real depth to it, which is what makes a rug of this shape work - the shaggy edge needs enough substance to hold its curve rather than flopping. Barefoot it is genuinely soft, and the density means it absorbs a fair amount of sound, so it takes the hard edge off a room with wooden floors and bare walls.

Four sizes run from a compact 80 by 120 centimetres for a bedside or a reading corner, up through 80 by 160 and 100 by 160, to a full 200 by 300 for a living room where the rug is meant to sit under the furniture rather than in front of it. Vacuum on a suction-only setting without a beater bar, which protects the longer fibres and stops the shaggy edge from being pulled out of shape.
