Layered Disc Pendant Light 34cm

Stacked discs were everywhere in mid-century Scandinavian lighting for a practical reason: each tier hides the bulb from a different angle, so the fitting can hang low over a table without anybody getting a face full of glare. This one uses three tiers in pressed metal, thirty-four and a half centimetres across and fourteen and a half deep, with the rims turned so the light spills out between the layers rather than only downwards. It is a shape that looks considered from every seat at the table.

Three colours are offered and they change the fitting completely. Orange is the boldest and reads as a deliberate period reference, the sort of thing that anchors a room with otherwise plain walls. Green is softer and more contemporary, and works well against timber or dark paint. White is the quiet option, which lets the layered form do all the work without any colour competing with it at all.

The flex and the ceiling plate can be specified in black or white independently of the shade colour, which matters more than it sounds: a white flex against a white ceiling all but disappears, while a black one draws a deliberate line down to the shade. The cord is adjustable at installation so the hanging height can be set for the room. It takes a single E27 bulb, not supplied.
