Lidded Ceramic Tea Cup, 380ml

A generous lidded cup holding 380ml, glazed by hand so that a mountain landscape runs around the outside and no two are painted identically. It stands 13.5cm high and 14.6cm across including the handle, which is deliberately oversized — this is a cup for a long working morning rather than a quick coffee between things.

The lid is the part that earns its keep. It keeps a brew hot for far longer than an open mug, doubles as a rest for a used tea bag, and stops a desk cup going cold while a call runs over. Five glaze treatments are offered, from a deep ink-wash green through a black and white brushed finish to a classic blue and white.

The body is lead-free ceramic and is safe in a dishwasher, a microwave, an oven and a freezer, which is unusual for a hand-glazed piece and makes it far more useful day to day than a decorative cup that has to be washed by hand. The handle is shaped to take a full cup comfortably without pinching, even when the ceramic is hot. Because it is a lidded cup rather than a sealed travel mug, do not carry it in a bag - the lid rests in place and is not designed to hold liquid in when tipped.
