Lidded Porcelain Noodle Bowl 1.1L

A deep porcelain bowl of 1120ml with a matching lid, measuring 16cm across and 13cm tall. The capacity is the important number: a proper bowl of ramen with broth, noodles, an egg and toppings needs well over a litre, and most western soup bowls give up at half that. Here there is room to eat without pushing everything over the rim.

The lid earns its place several times over. It holds the heat in while a bowl is carried from the kitchen to a table, keeps a portion warm for someone running late, and covers leftovers in the fridge without cling film. Lifted off, it doubles as a small side plate for a spoon, a chopstick rest or a pile of discarded shells.

The porcelain is glazed inside and out with a smooth, close finish that does not stain from soy, chilli oil or turmeric. It suits ramen, udon and pho, but also stews, curries with rice, big salads and breakfast cereal. It is dishwasher and microwave safe, though the bowl will get hot in a microwave, so use a cloth. Take care with the lid, which can chip if it is knocked against the rim. A single bowl is supplied per order, so buy in pairs or fours if the whole table is eating the same thing.
