Linen Blend Tassel Tablecloth

A plain cloth in a natural linen and polyester blend, finished with a fringed border in a contrasting coffee tone. The blend is the practical part: pure linen creases the moment it is put on a table and needs pressing every time, while the polyester in this one holds the drape and comes out of a wash ready to use. The look is still linen - slubbed, matt and slightly uneven.

Five sizes are offered so the cloth can be matched to the table rather than the other way round. The 90 by 90 centimetre square suits a small breakfast or card table. The two round sizes at 100 and 120 centimetres fit standard round dining tables with a modest overhang. The 100 by 140 rectangle covers a four to six seat table, and the 120 square is the largest, for a big square table or a generous drop on a smaller one.

The fringe is the detail that stops it reading as a plain hotel cloth, and it hangs well enough that the edge stays straight rather than curling. Because the blend is hard-wearing and does not mind a breeze, it works outside on a garden table as well as indoors. Machine wash warm with like colours and line dry; the fringe should be shaken out rather than combed, and a cool iron on the body is enough.
