LumiLuxe Cordless Cone Table Lamp

A tapered metal cone on a slim stem, 15cm across the base and 31cm tall, weighing about 750g so it stays put on a windy terrace or a crowded table. The acrylic diffuser under the shade spreads light all the way round rather than pooling it in one direction, which is what you want from a lamp that will be moved about and set down among plates and glasses.

There is no cable at all. A rechargeable battery sits in the base and a touch pad on the top steps the brightness up and down, from a low candle-level glow for a long dinner to something bright enough to read by. Charge it indoors, then carry it out to a table, a windowsill, a bookshelf or a bathroom shelf, and bring it back when it needs topping up.

The IP54 rating covers dust and splashing water, so it copes with a sheltered terrace, a covered porch or a steamy bathroom, though it is not made to sit out in heavy rain. Five colours are offered: black and white for restraint, orange, light blue and wine red for something with more character. The battery is built in and not user-replaceable, so please recycle the lamp responsibly at the end of its life.
