Mesh Shade Table Lamp Pair

Two matching table lamps with shades woven from fine metal mesh, sold as a pair. The mesh is the reason to buy them: instead of blocking the light it breaks it into a fine grid, so the shade glows and the lamp also throws a pattern onto the wall behind. Matched pairs are hard to find at this size, and buying them together means the finishes actually match.

Each lamp is 15 centimetres square and 30 tall, weighs 700 grams, and comes with a 1.5 metre cord with an inline on-off switch. That is the right scale for a pair of nightstands, either end of a sideboard, or a console table where two small lamps read better than one large one. The industrial look sits well with exposed brick, dark joinery or a steel-framed window, and the finish is even enough that it does not look like a reproduction.

Each shade takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60 watts, not supplied. Because the mesh is open, the bulb is visible through it - a filament-style LED is much the best choice here and a bare cool-white one will glare. The mesh gets warm in use, so let the lamps cool before moving them, and keep them clear of curtains. Dust the mesh with a soft brush rather than a cloth, which will snag.
