Each birdhouse is cut and folded from sheet metal and set on a slim stake, so it reads as a small piece of architecture lifted out of a border rather than a nest box screwed to a fence. The detailing is deliberate but spare: a cut chimney, a pitched roof, a round window, all done in flat planes that catch the light differently as the sun moves across a garden through the day.
The stake stands 75 cm, which lifts the house clear of low planting and keeps it visible from a path or a window without towering over a bed. Five designs are offered, from a single house with a fireplace and windows through a cylindrical form and a double triangular roof, to a chimneyed house and a trio of small houses on one stake. Grouped at different points in a border they read as a tiny village.
The metal is supplied bare rather than painted, so it will darken and take on a soft green patina as it weathers; that change is expected and is part of the finish. Push the stake fully into firm ground so the house sits upright and cannot be blown over, and site it well back from paths, mown grass and anywhere children play, since the stake ends in a point. Check it is still firm after a storm.
