Metal Shade Desk Lamp 35cm

Thirty-five centimetres high on a fifteen centimetre base, with a tapered metal shade twelve by fifteen. It is the shape of a reading lamp rather than a task light: the shade is deep enough to keep the lamp out of your eyeline when you are sitting beside it, and wide enough to put light on a book, a desk diary or a keyboard without needing to be aimed.

The base is the useful part. Fifteen centimetres across and weighted, it stays put on a desk that gets leaned on, which cannot be said for the clamp and clip lamps that sit at the same price. The switch is inline on the cable rather than on the body, so you reach for it in the same place every time and never have to feel around a warm shade in the dark to turn the lamp off.

Four colours are offered: pink, yellow, white and grey. The white and grey are the neutral choices for a home office; the pink and yellow work better in a child's room or a spare room where the lamp is allowed to be the brightest thing present. An LED lamp is included, so the lamp works out of the box. It is a plug-in fitting for UK mains use and requires a UK plug.
