Microfibre Non-Slip Bath Mat

A bath mat has two jobs: soak up the water that comes off you, and stay where it was put. This one is deep-pile microfibre bonded to a full rubber backing, so it holds a surprising amount of water without feeling soggy underfoot and does not skate across a tiled floor when you step onto it from the bath. The pile is deep enough to feel warm underfoot on a cold tiled floor, which is a small thing that gets noticed every morning in winter.

Two sizes are offered. The 40 by 60cm is the standard in front of a basin or a small bath. The 50 by 80cm covers the length of a bath properly, which matters in a family bathroom where the floor takes more water. Three colours are available: a warm brown, a neutral grey that suits most modern tiling, and a deeper red.

It is machine washable, which is the practical test of a bath mat, and the pile recovers well after a wash. Wash it at a moderate temperature and let it dry naturally rather than on a hot radiator, which can harden a rubber backing over time. Even with the backing, take normal care stepping onto a wet floor, particularly with children.
