Milk velvet is a short, dense pile with a slight sheen, softer underfoot than cotton and warmer to get into on a cold night. Here it is woven in a large, low-contrast check that reads as texture from across the room and only resolves into squares up close. Five colours are offered, in black, blue, grey, green and orange, all of them deep rather than bright.
The sheet is cut for a single mattress at 90 by 200 centimetres and has elastic all the way round the hem rather than just at the corners, which is what keeps a pile fabric from working loose in the night. The depth allows for a standard mattress; on a very deep or pillow-topped one it will sit tight. It is sold on its own, not as part of a set.
Machine wash it cool on its own for the first wash, since dense pile fabrics shed a little at the start, and tumble on low or line dry. Do not iron the face; heat flattens the pile and the mark does not lift. A gentle brush along the nap after drying will bring it back up. Wash separately from towels, which will pick up any loose fibre.
