Moving Sand Art Picture

A sealed glass disc holding coloured sand suspended in liquid, which settles into a layered landscape when the frame is turned over and left to stand. No two settlings are the same, so the picture on the shelf is never quite the one that was there yesterday. Two sizes are offered, roughly 18cm and 30cm across, in a slim frame that will stand or hang.

Seven colourways are available, from a black and gold that reads almost like a mineral cross-section through to blue, orange, green, lilac and pink sands over a paler ground. The larger size is the one to choose if it is going to be the object people look at in a room; the smaller works better on a desk, where it will be turned over often.

It is a decorative piece rather than a toy, and the vessel is sealed and must never be opened — the liquid inside is not intended for handling. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets, and stand it on a level surface away from an edge. Direct sunlight will fade the sand colours over months, so a shaded shelf is better than a windowsill. Allow a few minutes after turning it before the sandscape has finished settling into its final form.
