Mushroom Pod Cordless Table Lamp 28cm

Twenty-eight centimetres tall with a domed head sixteen across, this is the classic mushroom silhouette done in painted metal rather than glass. The dome hides the light source completely, so what reaches the room is soft and reflected rather than direct. On a bedside table, a windowsill or a shelf in a hallway it gives the kind of low warm pool of light a ceiling fitting never manages.

There is no cable in use, which changes what you can do with it. Charged over USB, the lamp then runs cordless for an evening, so it can move to a dinner table, out to a covered porch, or onto a bathroom shelf without any thought about where the nearest socket is. A touch of the base dims it steplessly from a faint glow to full, and the LED is specified as flicker-free.

Eight colours are offered, from grey, black and white through to dark green, yellow, light blue and two warmer reds. The painted finish is matte and even, and the base is weighted enough that the lamp does not tip if it is knocked. Charge it using a UK USB power adapter. The built-in lithium cell means the lamp should be taken to a WEEE recycling point rather than put in household waste at the end of its life.
