Naka Matcha Tea Set

Everything needed to whisk matcha properly, in four pieces. The chawan is a wide glazed ceramic bowl of 400ml, 14cm across and 7.7cm deep, with room for the whisk to move without slopping. The whisk itself is cut from a single piece of bamboo, 5.7 by 10cm, with fine tines that break up the powder and build a proper crema on the surface.

The set is completed by a ceramic whisk stand, 5.7 by 6.7cm, and a 17.5cm bamboo scoop. The stand matters more than it looks: standing the whisk on it after rinsing holds the tines in shape and stops them splaying, which is what ruins cheap whisks within a month. The scoop measures a consistent portion straight from the tin.

Four glaze colours are offered: red, white, blue and yellow. It makes a considered gift for anyone starting out with matcha, and a tidy set to leave out on a kitchen shelf. No health, dietary or wellbeing claims are made for this product; it is tea equipment. Rinse the bamboo pieces in warm water without detergent and air-dry them fully. The bowl is best hand washed to protect the glaze. Store the whisk on its stand rather than flat in a drawer, and the set will stay in good order for years.
