Natural Stone Outdoor Wall Sconce

Most outdoor wall lights are aluminium painted to look like something else. This one is cut from natural yellow cave stone, and the difference shows in daylight as much as at night: the stone has real depth, faint fossil banding and a matt surface that does not flash in the sun. A horizontal slot in the face releases the light, so the beam is a narrow band rather than a glare. Because the slot is horizontal, the two fans of light spread sideways across the wall rather than straight down, which covers far more of the surface.

Two lengths are offered. The 32cm suits a run down a boundary wall or either side of a garage door. The 42cm has enough presence to stand alone beside a front entrance. The 18W LED is warm white and dimmable, which is unusual at this size and genuinely useful if the light faces a neighbour's window or a bedroom across a courtyard.

It is rated IP65, so rain and hose washing are not an issue, and the LED is integrated rather than a replaceable bulb. Stone is heavier than metal, so use fixings appropriate to the wall construction rather than the generic plugs in the box. Being a mains outdoor fitting, it must be wired in by an electrician on a properly protected circuit.
