Navajo Pattern Woven Throw

A woven throw in the geometric Southwestern tradition, worked in warm sunlit tones - ochre, rust, cream and a deep terracotta - that have made this style a fixture of boho interiors for decades. The pattern is woven through rather than printed on, so the reverse carries the same design in negative and the throw looks finished from either side.

At 80 x 110cm this is a chair throw rather than a bed blanket, and it is sized deliberately. Draped over the back of an armchair or a reading chair it covers the whole seat back without pooling on the floor; folded in three across the end of a bed it gives a plain duvet the horizontal band of colour it needs. It is also the right size for a picnic rug or a lap blanket in a cold conservatory.

Geometric weaves like this earn their keep in rooms that have gone neutral. A grey sofa, white walls and pale wood will take a single strongly patterned textile and look considered rather than busy, where two or three would tip into clutter. Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle and air dry flat to keep the weave in shape; avoid tumble drying, which shrinks and distorts woven cotton over time.
