Nevaro Starburst Glass Ceiling Light

The Nevaro arranges fifteen slim gold arms in a low, open dome, each arm tipped with a moulded clear glass star. The frame measures 80cm across and only 18cm deep, so it spreads wide across the ceiling instead of hanging down into the room, which keeps it usable in spaces with standard ceiling heights. The gold finish and the glass together give a piece that carries a room on its own, with no shade to soften the outline.

Fifteen G4 LED bulbs are supplied and sit inside the glass stars, so each point of glass picks up the warm light and throws fine highlights onto the surrounding ceiling. The light is warm rather than clinical. The bulbs are not dimmable, so the fitting gives one steady level from a standard wall switch, and it is worth planning the rest of the room lighting around that. Construction is pressed metal for the frame and arms, with glass for the star diffusers.

Nevaro suits a living room, a dining room or a bedroom used mainly in the evening, where the highlights on the ceiling matter as much as the light on the floor. It wants a plain ceiling and clear space around it: at 80cm across it will crowd a small room or a low, busy ceiling. Since the level is fixed, pair it with lamps for softer evening light. Dust the glass stars and gold arms carefully with a soft dry cloth, working around each arm.
