Nordic Thick Walled Ceramic Mug

A mug with some heft to it. The walls are thick and the profile is rounded and slightly squat, which does two useful things: it keeps a coffee hot for noticeably longer than a thin-walled mug, and it feels good in the hand on a cold morning. The 300ml capacity is the sensible middle ground - a proper mug of tea or a flat white, without the swimming-pool proportions some mugs have drifted towards.

Five colours are offered, all muted rather than bright: yellow, green, brown, lilac and a speckled tint finish. The speckled option is the most interesting of the five, with fine flecks scattered through the glaze so no two are quite alike. Set out on an open shelf in a mix of colours they look like a collection built up over time rather than a boxed set.

The glaze is smooth and non-porous, so it will not hold coffee stains or tea tannin the way an unglazed interior does, and it wipes clean easily. Dishwasher safe and microwave safe for reheating. As with all glazed ceramics, avoid taking a mug straight from the fridge into a microwave or from a hot wash onto a cold stone worktop, as sudden temperature swings are what crack ceramic. Small variations in glaze thickness and tone are normal.
