Nordic Wood Collar Pendant Light

A spun aluminium dome hung from a turned wood collar, which is the detail that stops it reading as another anonymous metal pendant. The wood catches the light differently from the painted shade above it and gives the fitting a horizon line, so it sits comfortably in a room that already has timber in it - a worktop, a floor, a run of open shelving - rather than fighting with it.

The suspension is 90 centimetres and can be shortened at installation, which covers most standard ceiling heights. Over a kitchen island, hang two or three in a row at roughly 75 to 85 centimetres above the surface so the shade sits below eye level and the glare stays off the worktop. Over a dining table a single pendant centred on the table does the job, and the narrow dome keeps the light on the food rather than spilling across the room.

Five colourways are offered, from black and white through grey to green and pink, with the wood collar unchanged across all of them. The fitting takes an E27 or E26 bulb, not supplied; a warm filament-style LED suits the aluminium interior best. It runs on 90 to 260 volts and is a hardwired mains fitting, so installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated. Fit only to a ceiling point rated for the weight.
