Nordic Wood Towel Clip 13.5cm

Not every wall can take a drill, and not every towel needs a full rail. This small wooden clip solves both problems at once. A glass ball sits inside a shaped wooden channel and rolls under load, so pushing a towel up into the gap wedges it firmly, and a light tug downward releases it. There is no spring to weaken and no mechanism to seize up, which is why the design keeps reappearing in Scandinavian bathrooms decade after decade.

It measures 13.5cm long, 3cm wide and 4cm deep, so it takes up almost no visual space on a wall. That makes it useful in the places a rail will not fit: the return wall beside a shower, the inside of a cupboard door, the narrow strip between a basin and a window. Three woods are offered. Oak is pale and open-grained, beech is close-grained and almost uniform, and black walnut is deep chocolate brown and reads as the most formal of the three.

Installation uses the included 3M self-adhesive pads and no fixings. Press the pad onto a smooth, clean, dry surface and leave it a full twenty-four hours before hanging anything from it, since the bond builds strength over that period. Textured paint, loose tile and untreated plaster will not hold. Keep the wood out of direct spray and wipe it dry after use.
