NordTeak Seven-Piece Teak Utensil Set

Teak has been used for kitchen tools longer than stainless steel has existed, for a straightforward reason: it is dense, oily by nature, and almost indifferent to water. This seven-piece set covers the everyday jobs — a cooking spoon, a slotted spoon, a flat spatula, an angled turner, a corner spoon for the edges of a pan, a wide serving spoon and a small tasting spoon.

Every piece is cut from a single block rather than laminated, so there are no glue lines to open up in a hot pan. The grain runs the length of the handle for strength, edges are hand-sanded to a soft radius, and the whole set is finished with food-safe oil rather than lacquer, which would eventually flake. Teak will not scratch non-stick coatings, will not conduct heat into your hand, and will not react with acidic sauces the way some metals do.

Kept dry and re-oiled occasionally, teak tools outlast most pans. Hand wash in warm soapy water, dry immediately rather than leaving them to soak, and rub in a little food-safe mineral or walnut oil when the surface starts to look pale. Not dishwasher safe. The set also stands well in a crock on the worktop, where the warm grain of the teak does rather more for a kitchen than a fistful of black nylon.
