NordWood Grain Wall Clock, 20cm

A small solid wood clock, 20cm across, for the places a full-size one overwhelms: a narrow alcove, the wall above a desk, a kitchen return between two units, or propped on a shelf rather than hung at all. The grain runs across the face and is left unstained under a clear finish, so each piece is marked slightly differently.

Two tones are offered. The light brown keeps a room feeling open and pairs with pale walls and oak furniture; the dark brown gives more contrast and holds its own against a painted colour. The dial is unnumbered, with fine indices at the hours and slim hands, which is what keeps a clock this size from looking busy up close.

The quartz movement is quiet and accurate, running from a single AA battery that is not supplied. At around 500g it is light enough for a picture hook. As with any solid timber piece, keep it away from direct heat and steam, so not directly above a radiator or a kettle, and wipe it with a dry cloth rather than a damp one. Bought as a pair in the two tones and hung together, the grain difference between them becomes the point of the arrangement rather than an inconsistency.
