Olira Cotton Bedspread

A bedspread is a layer rather than a replacement. This one goes over the top of your duvet, adding weight, colour and a finished edge to a bed that otherwise looks half made. It is not a duvet and it is not a duvet cover: nothing goes inside it, and it does not take the place of the bedding you already own.

Cotton gives it a soft handle and a breathable structure, so it can stay on the bed through warmer months and be folded back to the foot when it is not wanted. Four widths are offered, at 120, 160, 180 and 200cm, all cut to the same 230cm length, so the choice is really about how far you want the fabric to drop down each side. Five designs, A through E, are drawn from a wider source range.

Across a double bed the narrower widths sit as a central runner, while the wider ones cover the mattress and hang at the sides. Either look works, and both are easy to straighten in the morning. Fold it away in summer and bring it back in autumn; cotton stores flat without creasing badly. As with any loose bedding layer, it is not suitable for an infant sleeping space, and you should follow current safer-sleep guidance for babies under twelve months, which advises against loose bedding in a cot.
