Origami Fold LED Wall Light

Folded sheet metal is a good way to make a wall light interesting without adding bulk, because the shadow lines between the planes do all the decorative work. This one is pressed into a series of angled facets, sixteen centimetres wide and thirty-three tall, with the LED hidden inside the fold so the light escapes as a soft band up and down the wall rather than as a visible point.

The effect changes with the finish. In black the facets read as sharp graphic lines against a pale wall and the fitting is at its most architectural. Gold catches the light on the upper planes and warms the wash considerably, which suits a hallway or a bedroom. White is the most discreet of the three and nearly disappears in daylight, leaving only the shadow between the folds.

The LED is integrated and produces a warm white output sized for a five to ten square metre area, so it works as a bedside light, a hallway marker or a pair flanking a mirror. It is hardwired at mains voltage and is not dimmable, so pair it with a standard switch. The fitting is rated for dry indoor rooms and should not be used in a bathroom or outside.
