Orvello Amber Glass Cluster Ceiling Light

The Orvello carries six amber glass shades along a black metal arm that spirals out from a single ceiling plate. It has the presence of a chandelier while sitting close to the ceiling, so it works in rooms that cannot take a long drop. Each shade is a soft, uneven bowl of cognac-toned glass held in a brass collar, and no two catch the light the same way.

The six lamps spread across a 93cm span, which lights a large room from several points at once rather than from one bright centre and flattens the harsh shadows a single pendant leaves behind. Six E27 lamps are needed and are not supplied, so brightness and colour temperature stay open to choice. The fitting is surface mounted and hardwired, and assembly is required before it goes up.

At that width it is sized for a living room, dining room or main bedroom of roughly 8 to 15 square metres, and the shallow drop suits a standard ceiling height where a hanging chandelier would be in the way. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation and check that the ceiling fixing takes the weight of a wide fitting. Dust the glass bowls with a dry soft cloth.
