Outdoor PIR Lantern Wall Light

A traditional lantern form for a porch, a side door or a garage wall, with a tapered body, a peaked cap and a scrolled bracket, finished in black. The shape is deliberately old fashioned but the body is moulded polycarbonate rather than cast metal, which means it carries none of the weight and none of the rust that a comparable iron lantern would bring to a rendered wall.

A passive infrared sensor is built into the underside and covers about six metres, bringing the lantern on as someone approaches and letting it drop out again once they have passed. A manual override lets you hold it on when you want it on regardless, which matters on an evening when people are coming and going and the sensor would otherwise keep cycling the light.

The lantern measures 40.2 by 18.5 centimetres with a projection of 26.1 centimetres and weighs 840 grams. It is IP44 rated and Class 1, meaning it must be earthed, and it should be installed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit. It takes one E27 large Edison screw lamp, which is not included in the box; an LED filament lamp suits the fitting best and runs coolest.
