Peacock Cordless Table Lamp 22cm

A peacock with its tail fanned, moulded in faceted acrylic so that the light inside breaks up across dozens of small planes instead of leaving the body as an even glow. Switched off it reads as a clear ornament; switched on the facets catch and throw small points of light onto whatever surface it is standing on. It is unapologetically decorative and makes no pretence of being a reading lamp.

At 22 centimetres tall and 13.5 across it is the right scale for a shelf, a bathroom windowsill, a hall console or the corner of a dressing table. There is no cable, which is the practical argument for it - the battery is built in and charges over USB, so the lamp can be picked up and moved to wherever it is needed and put back without unplugging anything.

The body is ABS rather than glass, which means it is light, will not shatter if it is knocked over, and can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth. Avoid solvents and household cleaners, which craze the surface and dull the facets permanently. The lithium battery is not user-replaceable, so at end of life the whole unit should go to a WEEE collection point rather than into household waste. Keep out of reach of small children.
