Plavo Scalloped Microcement Pendant Light

The Plavo is a wide microcement shade with a deeply ribbed surface and a torn, scalloped rim. At 25cm across and 15cm deep the cone is shallow and broad, so it sits low and spreads light out sideways rather than dropping it in a narrow column. The off-white cement reads as a soft matt stone against timber, plaster and rattan, and the ribbing holds enough shadow to give depth even unlit.

A knurled brass lamp holder with a thumb screw caps the shade and connects to a twisted fabric flex, so the metalwork is left visible as part of the design rather than hidden inside a canopy. The cable is 59 inches long and adjustable, which allows the drop to be set to the room. An E27 screw fitting takes a standard LED or filament bulb, chosen to suit the tone of the space. Because the shade is demoulded and then air dried, small pores and light demoulding marks form along the edges.

Those marks are part of how the material is made rather than faults, and no two shades carry quite the same pattern. Plavo works over a kitchen island, a bedside table or a dining table, and a run of two or three at matched heights suits a longer worktop. Set the drop so the low, broad cone sits clear of sightlines across the room. Dust the cement with a dry brush or soft cloth; it is porous and does not take wet cleaning well.
