Pleated Edge Plush Sofa Runner

Read this one carefully before adding it to your basket, because the format matters. At 70cm wide, this is a runner - a throw-over strip that lies along the seat and up the back of a sofa to protect the surface underneath. It is not a fitted cover, not a stretch cover and not a full sofa cover, so it will not wrap the arms or the base of a settee, and it is not intended to.

What it does well is take the daily wear. Thick flannel over microfibre gives it real weight and a plush hand, hand-pleated edges finish the long sides neatly, and a non-slip backing helps hold the position on fabric upholstery. Three lengths are available at 70cm wide: 150cm, 180cm and 210cm, so measure along the seat before choosing. Five colours run from Snow Drift and Sand Haven through Cloud Texture to Charcoal Calm and Fresh Meadow.

In practice it does the job of a protective layer on the seat where the family sits, over the back of a chair where a head rests, or along a window seat. Machine washing means muddy paws and spilled tea are not a crisis. On leather or a polished timber frame it can slide, so smooth it back into place from time to time and lay it on a clean, dry surface.
