Pleated Shade Glass Base Table Lamp

A pleated fabric shade sitting on a clear glass base - a shape that came out of mid-century Scandinavian houses and has been quietly back for a few years now. The pleats do real work: they break the light into vertical bands so the shade has depth rather than glowing flat, and they throw a fanned pattern onto the wall behind the lamp when it is close to one.

The glass base keeps the whole thing visually light despite the shade being generous, which matters on a small nightstand or a narrow console where a solid ceramic base would feel heavy. White is the version for a room that already has enough going on; orange is warmer and more period, and reads as a deliberate colour choice rather than a neutral. At 31 centimetres tall and 16 wide it is a proper bedside lamp.

This is the 220-240 volt UK specification. The fitting takes an E14 small Edison screw bulb, not supplied, and the lamp adds USB-powered control with three light settings - white, warm and neutral - plus dimming. The shade will get warm around the bulb, so let it cool before moving the lamp, and keep it well clear of curtains and bedding. Dust the pleats with a soft brush rather than a cloth.
